More than 5,000 bunds dug and reseeded to make most of short rains!
When the rains arrive, it’s crucial to capture every last drop – making sure that nothing gets washed away over the dry, barren soil. Thanks to the commitment of 310 members of the Samburu community, more than 5,000 bunds were dug and reseeded in less than 2 months – just in time for the arrival of the short rains!
Behind the scenes – our tented Montessori School classrooms on the move!
Our Nomadic Montessori school tents are gearing up for a holiday break of their own! Watch as we carefully collapse each tent and see our talented seamster at work, mending them right under a tree on site!
Reflections on the 2024 Maa Cultural Week Festival held in Samburu
The second Maa Cultural Week Festival in Samburu celebrated the vibrant traditions of the Maa people, bringing together communities and visitors to honour the richness of indigenous cultures.
18 Months later: How the trees at our Nomadic Montessori schools have grown!
Last May, our Eco Rangers planted 100 trees across three locations in Namunyak Community Conservancy and we’re thrilled to report that despite the tough conditions in Northern Kenya, they are thriving. Have a look!
Up close & personal with Sonia Legei – one of Sarara’s female guides
Sarara Guide, Sonia Legai’s journey to pursue her passion speaks volumes about her love for Northern Kenya. In this blog, she shares more about overcoming considerable odds to obtain the necessary qualifications, the excitement of her first solo safari, and her favourite species in Kenya’s northern frontier.
Sarara guides shine at leading Rangeland Training Course
Sarara guides Kevin Lenanyankera and Ian Lekiluai recently returned from a hands-on Rangeland Training Course, gaining new insights into sustainable land management and the crucial roles of insects and grasses in preserving East Africa’s fragile ecosystems.
Building futures – the vital role of teachers for Samburu’s indigenous children
This World Teachers’ Day, we’re honouring both our Montessori teachers and our Elders. In our Indigenous community, they are both essential – our Elders grounding us in tradition, and our teachers guiding us toward the future.
A Life Altered, For Good!
Mesianae’s young life has been challenging, and her story is not an easy one to tell. At just 10 years old, she already had to face obstacles that would test the resilience of anyone – let alone a small child. This is her story…
Father Power!
In celebration of Father’s Day, we’re admiring some dapper dads in the wilderness, who keep earning the respect of their offspring – and peers!
