As passionate champions of sustainable grazing, the women actively support grazing compliance, report injured wildlife, and take a leading role in land restoration efforts – especially in light of prolonged periods of drought. In the past year, Milk Mamas have increasingly been at the forefront of rotational grazing plans and have taken on stronger leadership roles in rangeland health.
When the rains arrive, it’s crucial to capture every last drop – making sure that nothing gets washed away over the dry, barren soil. Thanks to the commitment of 310 members of the Samburu community, more than 5,000 bunds were dug and reseeded in less than 2 months – just in time for the arrival of the short rains!
Last May, our Eco Rangers planted 100 trees across three locations in Namunyak Community Conservancy and we’re thrilled to report that despite the tough conditions in Northern Kenya, they are thriving. Have a look!
When Teacher Stella Lenangoisa was recently invited to deliver a speech at the Annual Global Meeting of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in the Netherlands, her presentation on our Nomadic Education Program held the audience spellbound!
