Herd of elephants at Sarara by Ami Vitale

Discover the abundant wild- and birdlife of Northern Kenya

Through the pioneering efforts of the indigenous Samburu over the last 30 years, Namunyak Community Conservancy has become a safe haven for wildlife – with elephants, giraffes, leopards and many other species returning in increasing numbers.

Turning into a blueprint for community-led conservation in Africa – and worldwide – the conservancy serves as a sanctuary for Kenya’s second-largest herd of elephants, one of its largest herds of Reticulated Giraffe, the critically endangered Grévy’s Zebra, wild dogs, kudus, and many endemic and migratory birds.

It’s also home to a host of other wild animals, including the fabled long-necked gerenuk!
