More than 5,000 bunds dug and reseeded to make most of short rains!
When the rains arrive, it’s crucial to capture every last drop – making sure that nothing gets washed away over the dry, barren soil. Thanks to the commitment of 310 members of the Samburu community, more than 5,000 bunds were dug and reseeded in less than 2 months – just in time for the arrival of the short rains!
18 Months later: How the trees at our Nomadic Montessori schools have grown!
Last May, our Eco Rangers planted 100 trees across three locations in Namunyak Community Conservancy and we’re thrilled to report that despite the tough conditions in Northern Kenya, they are thriving. Have a look!
Together Against the Flames: An Incredible Team Effort
When a ravaging blaze broke out in Namunyak on Friday, an incredible collaboration on the ground ensued. It included Namunyak’s Rangers and Grazing Team, who demonstrated the power of unity while facing environmental challenges, and worked tirelessly until the last embers were extinguished on Sunday.

Who knew you could be dazzled by dung? Our Eco Rangers have been educating the community about the adverse effects of burning manure and the value that manure holds for rangeland rehabilitation.

Louwai Obo was a hive of activity this past month. In addition to our fourth nomadic Montessori School opening with a joyous celebration, our Eco Rangers also supported this community in numerous ways!
Re-greening and reversing desertification
An extensive erosion control and re-greening project in Northern Kenya, in an effort to reverse desertification and retain productive soils, is bearing fruit after the region finally received a few showers of rain in November 2022.
