Louwai Obo was a hive of activity this past month. In addition to our fourth nomadic Montessori School opening with a joyous celebration, our Eco Rangers also supported this community in numerous ways!

From hosting an inspiring Milk to Market session with insights about milk hygiene and time management for participants of this program, to training on forest conservation and erosion control, the wellbeing of the community and the landscape they live in was the golden thread weaving through all of the Eco Rangers' efforts – and at the heart of their holistic approach.

It was wonderful to have 45 Milk Mamas and 5 men join the education session, which paid tribute to their work and encouraged best practices to benefit their businesses on the ground. By supplying fresh goat milk to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, the Mamas earn stable incomes that significantly improve their living standards – and allow them to pay for medical care, school fees, and more.

Another education session followed two weeks later – this time about rangeland management. A total of 7 men and 20 Milk Mamas attended. The immense value of Namunyak's forest and fertile soil was discussed – and plans were forged to preserve these for the benefit of people, livestock, wildlife, and the land. The group also tackled the important topic of using manure to allow seeds to germinate, spread, and help revive the environment – as manure was previously burned to be disposed. The innovative plans that were made will ultimately make a positive difference to all!

A highlight was planting 20 Mwarubaini (Neem) trees with members of the community and The Sarara Foundation’s team – and fencing them in using dry sticks sourced on site. The trees will not only help to green this precious landscape for generations to come, but also symbolise the strong roots within this community, and Louwai Obo’s ongoing unity and growth!

Ashe oleng to the Eco Ranger team for nurturing healthy communities and a thriving environment – and for guiding us towards living in balanced abundance!
