Double the (dik-dik) joy!
Rare sighting! A mother and her newborn Dik Dik seen at Sarara. Watch the video!
Up close & personal with Sonia Legei – one of Sarara’s female guides
Sarara Guide, Sonia Legai’s journey to pursue her passion speaks volumes about her love for Northern Kenya. In this blog, she shares more about overcoming considerable odds to obtain the necessary qualifications, the excitement of her first solo safari, and her favourite species in Kenya’s northern frontier.
Food from the heart – Chef Francis’ fresh, homegrown menus
For the past 8 years, Chef Francis has been delighting guests with his innovative use of fresh local ingredients, and his passion for traditional local food shines through in every meal!
A Rare & Remote Beauty – With a Twist!
Among the many incredible plants you may discover when visiting Sarara is the striking Desmidorchis acutangula – and it’s impossible to miss the purple-black flowers of this cactus-like succulent! Their striking colour is the first clue that there’s more to this plant than meets the eye.
Regrounded in nature.
Newly regrounded and honouring its remote location, the expansive suites, verandahs, and shared guest areas of Sarara Camp and House now make even more of this coveted Ecolodge’s awe-inspiring views and proximity to Namunyak Conservancy’s incredible wildlife.
Garden-fresh goodness!
Did you know that at Sarara, we produce our own sustainable veggies without incurring food miles and importing fresh food from elsewhere? Our grow-house uses a tailormade system that is perfect for northern Kenya’s climate – and drought-resistant too!
Go green! A recipe from our kitchen to yours.
Refreshing and nourishing, Sarara Camp’s mint and zucchini gazpacho made with freshly picked greens from our garden bursts with flavour – and it’s the perfect cool-down dish in the heat of the day!
Honouring Namunyak’s Female Rangers
This World Female Ranger Week, we are so proud to honour the female guardians of Namunyak Community Conservancy, and celebrate the meaningful work they do every day. Through their empathy, compassion, strength and wisdom, Namunyak has become and remains a place of peace – just as its name suggests in Samburu.
In Memory of Loldikir
On the 21st of May 2023, the Samburu community and Sarara lost one of its greats. Loldikir has been instrumental in the forming of Sarara and Namunyak and helping shape what it is today. His wisdom and knowledge was unmatched and his passionate dedication to conserving the wilderness deeply inspired those around him.
The Blessing of Rain After Years of Drought in Northern Kenya
After years of drought, Northern Kenya received its first proper rains spanning March, April and May 2023. In a matter of weeks, the once parched landscape was completely reborn and restored. A true testimony of nature’s resilience.
