The Sarara Foundation is pleased to announce the renewal of a 20 year partnership with Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy extending both parties' mission to secure the long term sustainability of this vitally important ecosystem.

Our New Role

The Sarara Foundation will serve as the operating and fundraising partner supporting the conservancy's programs including social development, wildlife conservation and the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary.

The Importance of Our New Role

Since the inception of the partnership between The Sarara Foundation and Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy in 2018, regional stability has improved, elephant and other wildlife numbers have increased and community members are gaining access to critical services such as healthcare and education.

"As the largest, and most biologically important community owned conservancy in Kenya, the ongoing success of Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy is crucial."

Mr. Kinyua Lengashar, Chairman of Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy

The importance is further underscored by the observations from Moses Lemarash, Chairman of Reteti Elephant Sanctuary:

“The Reteti Elephant Sanctuary continues to thrive, despite the harsh challenges of the current drought. With the support of our partnership in The Sarara Foundation, we continue to work hard to ensure that both people and elephants have a secure future in North Kenya.”

Building on this positive momentum, the partnership of Namunyak Conservancy, The Sarara Foundation, Kenya Wildlife Service and the Samburu County Government hope to generate significant social investment that address crucial human needs and build a robust and sustainable platform for protecting biodiversity for generations to come.

"Namunyak Conservancy and The Sarara Foundation have long enjoyed a close working relationship and we feel honoured to partner with them on this next phase of their conservation journey. Social and environmental challenges abound, however Namunyak Conservancy has developed a robust framework to succeed. From building a thriving community who lives alongside wildlife to weathering the increasing challenges brought on by climate change. We urge our donors to continue their support and look forward to this next exciting chapter."

- Jeremy Bastard, CEO of The Sarara Foundation

The ongoing drought in Northern Kenya remains one of the most devastating in recent history and is catalysing a raft of subsequent problems, including increased competition for resources between people and wildlife, hunger and biodiversity loss. However, with your support, Namunyak Conservancy can continue to provide a safe space for wildlife, social prosperity for its people and serve as a global example for indigenous lead conservation efforts.
