Women’s Microfinance Training

It was a privilege to partner with Women's Microfinance Initiative to empower 37 amazing Milk Mamas with business skills training.

January was a busy month for us! We were eager to build on the success of last year's Milk to Market program and help the Milk Mamas grow their business knowledge. That's why we were thrilled to partner with the Women's Microfinance Initiative (WMI).

WMI is dedicated to promoting women's economic participation by providing capital, training, and support services to rural women in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Their goal is to help these women engage in income-generating activities and use their profits to improve the lives of themselves and their families.

On January 24, 2023, 37 women from 10 villages attended a training led by three trainers from Uganda — Olive Wolimbwa, Jackline Namuanye, and Irine Wathaika. The women learned about savings, record keeping, marketing, personal finance management, and business plans. They also learned about the importance of saving and accurate record keeping, and how to increase sales through pricing and profit margins.

Watch the video below to see how the day went.

But the best part of the day was when we added a special discussion on girl child education to the agenda.

We believe that education is key to breaking down barriers and creating a more equal world, and our Milk Mamas serve as an inspiring example of indigenous women thriving in business, and the session aimed to inspire them to pass this attitude on to their daughters.

Here are a few teacher notes during training.

We're so grateful to WMI for their support in making this day a reality, and we can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on our Milk Mamas and their communities!

Watch the WMI trainers sing a song about how wonderful it is to be a woman!
