The Year in Review: The Nomadic Education Program
A good education is the foundation of a better future, we cherish every opportunity to nurture Namunyak’s future leaders! The past year was filled with so much learning, exploring, and creating – and all the children in our Nomadic Montessori Schools did us proud!
Our Students
With 225 students now enrolled in the program – 125 boys and 100 girls – we remain committed to opening the doors of opportunity, and believe education is a gift no one can ever take away. It’s why we’re ensuring that our children receive a world-class education, as well as nutritious meals at school to fuel their busy days!
A New School
One of the highlights of 2023 was the opening of our fourth school at Louwai Obo! The event was met with widespread joy and excitement – and the entire community as well as dignitaries who support our work and impact joined the festivities and ceremonies marking the day. Read about the opening of our fourth school here.
Our Teachers
As the heartbeat of each school’s daily activities and operations, our inspiring teachers unlock the potential in every child’s heart, spirit and mind. Their growth is equally important – and we’re humbled by their dedication to offering the best possible schooling all year round. The training and supervision the teachers have received throughout the year continue to build and develop best practice in the Montessori method.
Three of our teachers are currently pursuing their International Diplomas in Mwanza, Tanzania – and are due to graduate in 2024!
Four teachers were accepted to join the elementary 6-12 Diploma Course in January 2024, also in Mwanza, Tanzania. It was a competitive selection process and we’re thrilled to start building towards opening Nomadic Montessori primary schools here in Namunyak Conservancy.
Teacher Terri Koskei represented us at the AMI International Congress in Thailand and also delivered a keynote speech. Read more about it here.
In conjunction with AMI, our teaching staff received 0-3 training from Beverley Maragh, who visited Sarara from the UK. This training was unique as the parents from each school were involved in workshops with the teachers where valuable feedback and insights were uncovered.
Four teachers attended a Language and Storytelling training seminar in Nairobi which Cheryl Ferreira hosted.
Our teachers also received training in other disciplines and skills such as a snake handling and safety course by East African Reptiles - Taylor Ashe Antivenom Foundation (read about it in our blog here) and a basic life saving course by Global FICCS.
Hats off to you all!
We are grateful for the support that our team has received in 2023. Inspired by the incredible growth & support we’ve experienced this past year – we can’t wait to turn the page and start with 2024!
