Regrounded in nature.
With expansive private verandas opening onto awe-inspiring landscapes, and imposing views of both the mountains and sweeping valleys down below, Sarara Camp and House now offer a heightened awareness of their breathtaking surroundings, and foster a profound sense of place.
Setting out to mirror this magnificent setting throughout all suites and living spaces and allow for continuous interactions with nature, the Camp and House were recently regrounded to reflect the essential elements, colours and textures of Kenya’s northern frontier.
Encouraging a seamless flow between in- and outdoor spaces, extended bathroom and living areas invite even more unhurried downtime, and opportunities to enjoy the magic of the scenery and wildlife passing by; while detailed new pebble finishes and floors in the spacious outdoor showers echo the earthy tones of the landscape.
Featuring carefully selected items that ground each room in the region’s singular beauty, details include clothes hangers lovingly crafted by Sarara’s onsite joiner, Muigai. Made from locally sourced Malu Malu wood, the darkly hued hangers are perfectly complemented by the earthy new tones of the walls – which were inspired by the landscapes outside.

Made from natural fibres and creating a central focus in bedrooms while swaying gently in the breeze, large woven lamps add to the air of stylish simplicity. Echoing wabi-sabi, the traditional Japanese art form that honours imperfection and impermanence in nature, it’s another touchpoint that grounds Sarara’s interiors in its surrounds.
Carefully curated to still retain the camp’s classic atmosphere, desk spaces are adorned with time-honoured pieces and a sense of nostalgic whimsy, while large and inviting sofas welcome easing into laidback afternoons, marvelling at the changing shapes of clouds, and slowing down with the setting sun.
Again grounding guests in this unique setting, mealtimes emphasise a variety of freshly made options, and celebrate garden-to-table goodness with an abundance of homegrown fare. Delights include everything from starters like zucchini and mint gazpacho, to spicy curries with zesty sambals. The mouthwatering harvests are produced by the camp’s growhouse and lovingly tended garden using hügelkultur – a sustainable, drought-resistant organic farming system.
