Behind the scenes – our tented Montessori School classrooms on the move!

Our school tents preparing for their own holiday break!

At the end of yet another successful year throughout our Nomadic Montessori Schools, the sturdy tents used as classrooms, gathering spots, and shading from the hot African sun have seen their fair share of wear and tear!

Withstanding everything from heat and wind to rain and dust storms, these humble structures have been a grounding presence for young minds and little hands as they learned, played, and expanded their minds underneath them every school day.

After all the activities of the year, the tents needed some TLC before being packed up for the holiday season, so to make sure we can (literally!) hit the ground running on the first day of school in 2025, our talented seamster is on site to work his magic! Stitching up seams, reinforcing zippers, and patching any areas that need extra care – the tents will be as good as new when we welcome learners back to their “classrooms”.

Each tent will also be thoroughly washed and cleaned, leaving no traces of dust – ensuring a fresh start all round when students return for another inspiring year of learning.

Once the tents are all mended, cleaned, and folded, they’ll be carefully stored until that eagerly awaited day when the schools will reopen for another chapter in the children of Samburu’s exciting path of learning! It’s a bittersweet moment – on the one hand seeing the spaces go down, but on the other, knowing they’ll be back up soon to continue this all-important journey.

Here’s to another year of growth, expanding minds for a bright future, and the marvel of learning in Namunyak’s breathtaking outdoors.

STEP 1

Collapse the school tents – a team effort!

STEP 2

Dust away – the test all receive a much-needed wash!

STEP 3

Make sure the tents are in tip-top shape for next year!!

This year, we are proud to have welcomed 185 children – 96 boys and 89 girls – into our four Nomadic Montessori Schools, where they’ve grown, learned, and thrived under the Samburu sky.
